Terms of use

Updated

These terms are the agreement between you and the operator of Minigame Cafe (minigamecafe.com), an individual based in Japan. “We” means the operator. By using the site, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

How the site handles data is covered separately in our privacy policy.

What Minigame Cafe is

Minigame Cafe is a free collection of browser games and daily puzzles that we make ourselves. There is nothing to buy, no account to create and no place to post messages or upload files. Your records live in your own browser, not on our servers. The site may show ads from Google AdSense, which help pay for it.

Age

Minigame Cafe is a site for a general audience. If you are under the age at which you can accept these terms where you live, please use the site only with the permission of a parent or guardian.

Playing fair

Play the games in your browser, as a person, at your own pace. Please do not:

  • use bots, scripts or other automated tools to play the games, solve the daily puzzles for you, or post results you did not earn;
  • copy the site in bulk with crawlers or scrapers, or send so many requests that the site slows down or stops for others;
  • dig upcoming daily puzzles or their answers out of the site’s code and publish them, which spoils the day for everyone else;
  • try to break into the site, get around its security, or upload or spread harmful code through it;
  • use the site in a way that breaks the law where you are.

Tools that help you read or control a page, such as screen readers or zoom, are fine.

Ads

Do not click ads to earn money for the site, use software to click or load them, or ask other people to click them. Fake clicks break the rules of the ad network and can get the site’s ads shut off. Your choices about ad cookies are explained in the privacy policy, under “Your privacy choices”.

Our games and content

The classic games themselves, such as Sudoku or FreeCell, are not ours. Our versions of them are our own work: the code, the text, the figures, the pictures and the design, and the puzzles, word lists and daily schedules as we have made, selected and arranged them. The fonts we use, such as Source Sans 3 and Barlow Condensed, belong to their makers and are used under their own licenses.

Please do not copy our games, puzzles, word lists, text or figures onto another website or app, into a product, or into a dataset, including one used to train AI models, without our written permission. That includes framing our pages so they look like part of another site.

Sharing and linking

You are welcome to:

  • share your result with the Share button in a game;
  • post a screenshot of your own game;
  • link to any page on the site;
  • print a puzzle for your own use, where a game offers printing;
  • quote a short passage from our pages with a link back to the page you quoted.

Other sites and services

Some pages link to other websites, for example a source we cite. We do not run those sites and are not responsible for what they contain or do. Parts of this site also rely on services from other companies, such as hosting, analytics and ads. Those companies have their own terms.

The games are provided as they are

We test the games before we put them up, but we cannot promise that every game is free of bugs, that the site will be available at any given moment, or that a game will stay online. We may change, pause or remove a game or a feature, for example to fix a problem, follow the law or keep the site running.

Your records, streaks and saved games are stored only in your browser, and we never hold a copy. They can be lost if you clear your browsing data, use a private window, switch devices or browsers, or when your browser removes stored data on its own. We cannot see them or restore them, so keeping them is not part of what we provide.

Limits on our responsibility

The site is free, and we cannot accept unlimited responsibility for it.

If you suffer loss because of our negligence, and that negligence is not gross negligence, we are responsible only for the loss that such a failure would ordinarily cause. This limit applies only to ordinary negligence, never to gross negligence or to anything we do on purpose.

This limit does not apply to death or personal injury caused by our negligence, to fraud, or to any other responsibility that the law where you live does not allow us to exclude or limit.

If you use the site as a consumer, the law where you live may give you rights that no agreement can take away. Nothing in these terms reduces those rights.

If these terms are broken

If someone misuses the site in a way these terms forbid, we may block their access, for example by blocking the network address the misuse comes from.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms when the site, the services it relies on or the law changes. We will only make changes that are in users’ general interest, or that are reasonable and keep to the purpose of these terms. At least 14 days before a change takes effect, we will post on this page that the terms are changing, the new text and the date it takes effect. A change that only benefits you, or that the law requires sooner, may take effect earlier. If you do not agree with a change, you can stop using the site.

Governing law and courts

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. If a dispute about the site cannot be settled by talking it through, it may be brought before the Tokyo District Court in Japan as the court of first instance. This choice of court is not exclusive.

If you are a consumer, you may also bring a claim in the courts of the place where you live, and if we ever bring a claim against you, we will bring it only in those courts. If you live outside Japan, choosing Japanese law does not take away the protection of the rules of your own country that cannot be set aside by agreement.

If part of these terms is not valid

If a court finds that part of these terms is invalid or cannot be enforced against you, the rest of these terms still applies.
